    Normal map: Max or Maya?

    Hello again,

after finding the app "Materialize" I saw in the settings that I can save normal maps as Max or Maya. I found the difference, but I didn't find the correct setting for LW.
I am ashamed to ask such a noob question here, but searching the forum is overwhelming when looking for "normal map".

    Any fast hints?
    Greetings, Shloime

I'd imagine it is to do with LW being 'Z forward' and 'Y up'.

Some/most(?) other packages are 'Z up' and 'Y forward'.

I use Shadermap, and the axes can be specified in there so the map is compatible with whichever 3D package you're using.

As I remember Lightwave uses similar normal mapping than 3D Max,
it seems that Maya has inverted Y (or green) axis compared to 3D Max,
but whatever, differences between applications in normal mapping
is axis (or channel) inversion and you can modify this easily in the LW Normal node.

OK, thank you both, things are a bit clearer now.
