Seriously NewTek... This is your best moment for LW2020

Everyone is locking themselves in their homes with nothing better to do than to play with a new version of Lightwave... But outside it isn't a Road-Warrior wasteland yet. If you don't take this window to release LW2020 you might as well wait another three or four months for things to settle down.

    Seize the day.

With the current world status, now may be a good time to start. :P

This is the part I don't like about year designations. It sets the wrong expectations, justified or not.

I have to agree, also NT/LWG3D implied this was the case, which is fine but then you have to deliver. I'm also eager to see what licensing/price changes there may or may not be with new owners.

Yeah me too, but licensing changes would scare most few remaining users away.

Agreed and that's what they have to weigh up. Wonder how LW fits into all of this https://www.vizrt.com/products

Perhaps they'll add a new category, "Viz Abandoned"?

I'm past the point of really caring... I'll gladly buy the latest greatest to add to 2018 & 2019 because of my long history with LW, but I'm still relying on 2015 to get animation for clients in quantity done with reasonable quality even with 3 new 16 core boxes that make up my little renderfarm.

I've also done a couple test projects for clients this year using Blender and feel like I can get work done there as well. And honestly, I'm sort of starting to enjoy it.

It's really all about render times vs perceived quality, IMO. No doubt 2019 can make technically "better" and more realistic images, but to refine those images to the same smoothness and "perceived" quality I get with 2015 takes way too much time when doing long animation sequences.

I agree this would be a good time for an upgrade to drop for me personally... but with the world economy shrinking at this unbelievable pace, would it make financial sense for the new Vizrt Overlords to do so?

regarding rendertime, have you seen this ?
