Autodesk new licensing system - Name based and not anonymous serials.

Just got an article by post which says Autodesk is planning on introducing a new licensing system, starting 7th may 2020.
It will be based on the users name and not on some anonymous serial number.
And further the article states there will be several advantages such as administrative alternatives, new support channels, and opportunities for companies and organizations to retreive different types of
    user statistics.

Thoughts, something Newtek/Vizrt should look in to?

They are getting rid of all perpetual licenses. Mandatory subs from now on.

Good opportunity for Lightwave if 2020 is genuinely competitive.

How can they physically get rid of perpetual licenses.
It’s on your machine and running.
    Surely it’s just no updates/support.

Terrible idea for LW to go sub based.......

    Yeah, I wasn't clear there.

You could not buy a new perpetual license but if you already had a perpetual license you could upgrade. Autodesk is no longer allowing upgrades for perpetual licenses. You gotta switch to subscription.

If you want to upgrade for an 8 year discount you must trade in your perpetual license.

It is a good opportunity for LW. Expand to subs while commiting to always also offering perpetual licenses.

    I get ya now.
We upgraded Autocad perpetual to Revit/Autocad suite few years back at work, for a song.
Have been on ‘maintenance’ upgrades ever since (which is actually cheaper than subscription, plus if we stopped paying we would still have last version, rather than a rental model).

That would mean an online activation system most likeley.

If that's the cases, no thanks, it would be the end of LW for me.

For few other software or companies I make rare exceptions but never would I want to have anything that requires online connection, not even to activate initially with NewTek.

I really don't want to see LW go the way that MODO went. MODO's perpetual/subscription model is a freaking nightmare.

Fair enough! I don't want online licensing either.

In that case, LW2019 would be my last and final update.
