    Jas 39 Gripen

Jas 39 Gripen E is the latest incarnation of the Swedish high-technology fighterjet. The first fighterjet that actually tested out the new METEOR missile system, mind you.

One of the traditions of Swedish Airforce is to fly in a Christmas Tree formation at low altitude... and this is a simulation of that.

Anyways... I had a Gripen model, and did this as a fun little test for LWs renderengine.

I also used some of DB&W tools (Patreon) to give the jets some subtile differences in bank and pitch. In particular, the new Oscillator node. (makes things sooo much easer). Please... if you are a LW user, make sure to support DB&W.

Watch this clip with sound enabled.

This doesn't reflect anything I am currently working on as an employee at Massive. This is just me, having fun with LW in my spare-time!

    Have fun!

Is there some good reason why I am seeing this message:

A bunch of jets flying in formation may be age inappropriate ?

Well done. Not only did you fool me the first time I saw it, I also love to see our plugins being used in the wild.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Cheers,

Yeah... Gripen had its faults in the beginning... I remember the crash that happened in Stockholm during the Water Festival... it is a wonder that no one died. It has come a long way since then though... the E variant is pretty much a completely new figher compared to the A.

    Sure...

I can make a version that is zoomed in, perfect tracking, focus etc (no handheld stuff). If that is what it is you are asking for?

Very nice. They seem to be moving a little slow though.

Only one girl nearby the crashing site, she got small burn injuries..I was a bit upset when I saw it crash down in the middle of stockholm, all that smoke coming up and I thought some people must have died there, but luckily no one did.
The pilot shooting out at a low altitude as well.

Why Oh why canīt vimeo links work to be embedded on these forums, been years now, in blenderartist forums, they work

What kind of model did you get hold of?
Gripen has gotten a rumour of being a bit superior in how it can turn and twist in sharp angels, can be armed by lesser skilled personal..when landing on standard roads etc.

Very nice animation, feels very real. My first plastic model was a Drakken, one of the coolest jet designs. I also made a Viggen in the past, but the Grippen was out way after I stopped assembling plastic models.

The Dragon (Draken) ..one of the coolest lookin airplanes ever, with itīs single engine delta-wing, nice to look at, but in performance perhaps not so good, I think at one time we had a lot of accidents with pilots getting killed, another trademark was the roar it had ..in the 70īs there was often 2 or 3 of those every other week flying over our houses at low altitude, the windows where shaking every time, and the roar could be heard a long time after they passed by...cool in a way.

Nowadays I almost never hear anything, we got something aroun 134 of the JAS 39 A gripen, the Defense department says we need 120 of the Gripen E model.

in the late 70īs early 80īs...we had the forth (Largest) airforce in the world.
Military disarming quite a lot since then, but now we are re-arming again due to changed world threats etc.

    The Dragon...

    By the way Cageman,

Did you set up the flight up with cruise control?
Or did you eyeball the motion/speed of the Jets? perhaps manually calculating the distance and keyframing?

Iīm Curious to what actual speed the Jets have? (in your animation)
Someone mentioned it may look a tiny bit slow, but then again...I think they usually do 500km/hour for a christmas tree formation fly by.
