Face Expressions Using Control Points?

Was poking around and found this video by Fabio Annunziata
He has a facerig that drives morphs instead of using sliders and
posted a link in the comments showing what he based his setup on...

That video isn't available anymore on youtube

Would anyone have any ideas about his setup?

Its just combination shapes... you use null positions to drive morphs either via expressions or nodes. The real trick is in the shapes set that's used.

Haven't really had the opportunity to set up a face rig.... have used morphs, of course, but would really like to see a full rig like this working just so I could get a better idea of how it works.

RH, is this still in development? The last build I received only works in 2018. In 2019, it kicks a licensing error.

Here is the scene with the settings for the face animation interface, which the author Luca Burchietti kindly provided me (I hope he will not mind that I posted the scene here):

Face_CTRL_Export.zip

Just add a Nodal Displacement modifier (attached to Mitro_v010_head character) from this scene to the scene with your character and replace the morphs with yours.

The Kvaalen site is still up, and still has the face plugin Joytrol to download - would that be the same thing, or similar ?

I'm pretty sure joytrol stopped working (or stopped working properly) quite some time ago in a previous version of LW (somewhere around v9/10 perhaps it was). Either way, it had limitations against setting up your own woth nulls which, done nodally, is very easy and gives great flexibility.

no, as far as i know, JT stopped working in LightWave 8

this one "Expresso JC" (Expresso JoyControl?) looks to work in LightWave 11.6, from tests.

i believe "RH Face Rigging" goes much more into detail on non-linear facial animation.
an important aspect, less covered with other "simpler" setups.
