Thread: If you love something, set it free (TAFA)

  1. #31
Poser was one of the major targets for TAFA, right behind LW. CR2 files are supported natively, and it generates Poser animation files. Now, those file formats are circa 2005-2010, so I make no guarantees about modern Poser. But definitely give it a shot!

For info - the first three TAFA links on the TA Animation site are dead so I pulled links from the Webarchive, since they are worth looking at:-

    Dear Mac

First, Thank you for the kindness in releasing TAFA.

Could you find it a little time to kiss it with a LWO3 loader.

    Happy Trails

There's a note about that problem on Mac's site:

    https://macreitercreations.com/

'At that link, you can find a readme, the trial setup and the activation file. Print out the readme first, because it has the serial number you'll need. Then install the trial, then run the activation file to unpack the full version of the program.

You may get some antivirus warnings because I used an EXE packer, which makes heuristic antivirus scans paranoid. You'll have to use your own judgment. I scanned and kept everything as clean as I could before I ran the EXE packer, but ultimately it's your own call. Feel free to run the file(s) through VirusTotal, which is probably a good idea for anything you download from the Internet. '

Unfortunately, as those packers are also a vector for injecting malware into EXEs, TAFA might be "okay", but suspicion of such EXEs is usually worthwhile.

EXE packers tend to be more detrimental than beneficial now*, so using in commercial products is a horrible idea.

*: (TL ; DR) Modern OSes typically "file map" executables into virtual address space to speed dynamic loading. EXE packers make the loading process much less efficient, complicate EXE security "inspections", and prevent the OS from certain types of optimizations during dynamic loading. The risks and efficiency costs of EXE packers just tend to be disproportionately high compared to their benefits.

Much appreciated. I wish more developers would release older tools/EOL stuff.

    edit:
whatever it is in that 4_TAFA_Activation.exe, I can't extract it...even with my security suite turned off.
