Thread: Lightwave 2019.1.4 - CRASH, horrible

  1. #16
yes it is a Mac thing and it usually happens when you hold down shift( as in old style, as in no longer necessary but you still do it out of habit) while multi selecting layers and only when selecting a lower layer first followed by one above it, thing is when it crashes it's instantaneous and does not generate crash report, and is also well known and has plagued previous builds of 19x series

I reproduced this problem four times in a row using the following steps under LW2019.1.4 on Windows 7:

    1. Invoke Modeler fresh with the Layers panel already up (i.e. F7 prior to exit last time)
    2. Using the numeric panel defaults (i.e. press "n", then RETURN twice), create a Box in Layer 1
    3. Ball in Layer2 (again, numeric panel defaults for all the following)
    4. Disc in Layer 3
    5. Cone in Layer 4
    6. Capsule in Layer 5
    7. Toroid in Layer 6
    8. Press F7 twice to drop and invoke the Layers panel
    9. Expand the layers under "unnamed"
    10. Holding down SHIFT, select Layer 1 as Foreground, Layer 2 as Background
    11. Modeler crashes

I've attached the TXT file from DebugDiag.

    Good luck!
    mTp

P.S. reproduced a fifth time following my own instructions above!

    There is also a video;

2019.1.4 crashes at the end. I can crash modeler 10x faster on mac than win7.

Thanks mTp. I can now recreate this issue on Win7/2019.1.4 with a shorter version of mTp's example...

    1. create a Box in Layer 1
    2. Ball in Layer2
    3. Press F7 to show Layers panel (if not already visible)
    4. Expand the layers under "unnamed"
    5. Holding down SHIFT, select Layer 1 as Foreground, Layer 2 as Background
    6. Modeler crashes
    LW4, 7.5D, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2020 running portably on a USB drive on an Amiga 2500 running Wine.

Your recipe does not crash my LW not on mac neither on win7. At least in my case it is much more complicated than that.

    Yeah !!

    LightWave 3DŪ 2019.1.5 Changes
    Bumped product version to 2019.1.5.
    Bumped build number to 3134.

LB-5860 Modeler crashes when you shift click on one of the background layer spaces under the “b” next to a layer
LWB-5356 Modeler Crashes when selecting layers from the layer panel
LWB-5498 Selected layers from the layer bank are not syncing with Layers panel

Yep that LWB-5356 bug was nasty and weird, I'm glad it's fixed in 2019.1.5 patch. Modeler lot more stable now.

From what I've heard I think Chuck has retired and is no longer working for Newtek.

Bad left over to the person that will take his duties I would say..and on the brink while releasing an update.
Someone really needs take over that and immediately notify the release in the forums...how do they suspect people would find out, invest or download, itīs not even on the Lightwave3d page either, it is however..on the Lightwave3D, blog...so the question is where they should update news like that, seems odd that you update one page and not all of them at once.

A lot of people outside of facebook and not regulary visiting the blog and not able to follow a completly off topic threat with this news embedded, will loose out on the fuzz about the release.
    Obnoxius Mike ..signing off.
