    Polychains from chain link mesh

Is there a way in 2015 or 2019 to get polychains down the center of linked rings / tubes? I can get them down the edges of the normals, but I thought there was a way to collapse based on normals and get a center polychain. Thanks in advance! I'm sure Houdini can do it fast.. but I have no idea how to use it.

You can make two spline curves from opposite sides of your object then use rail extrude:

I think you can use up to 16 splines for rail extruding.
