Talking THE Ernie Wright? : NASA releases 3d map of Moon

    Hey Lightwavers:

could this be THE Ernie Wright of early Lightwave fame? Also, an interesting resource:

...so i guess these would use cylindrical or spherical projection mapping in LightWave ?

(i don't think these are mercator projections, i could be wrong tho)

mercator is a method of distortion correction going from spherical to planner not the other way round, you'r stuck with spherical

Yes, it's THE Ernie Wright. We've ran across each other at a few Siggraphs in the past years.

    Cheers,

Is it even possible to make the TIF file apply correctly onto a sphere? So far no luck. Is there not a UV map somewhere that would make the textures work properly?

    Spherical
    Axis: Y
    Automatic Sizing

    doesn't this work?

No it does not. This is set at...

    Spherical
    Axis: Y
    Automatic Sizing

I've tried a variety of other setting too, but no luck.

    Thanks erikals,

That looks much better, but you still see distortion at the poles.

Got it working here but I just used a null set to a Sphere shape.
