Hope that's not your working machine at Ubisoft, 5 year old 4 Core gaming processor and 16GB RAM!

I always compute price/performance using the cost for the whole system. I think that's more realistic as you're not just buying a CPU either.

    true, there are multiple ways.

i'd also add income as a factor.

Not for price/performance though. That's just a cap on price.

Now, if you want to go for price/budget, that's a different issue. But then you'd also factor in the whole system.

    Cheers,
    Mike

LOL, nopes... this is the machine I have at home. Should probably do a benchmark with the machine I have at work.

It seems to scale almost perfectly with cores.

XMP for the memory and minor bios changes.

I know it's not the point, but it's really easy to make this scene render 10x faster. Just use brute force global illumination, set all the samples (shadow, shading, so on) to 1, and quadrupedal the anti-aliasing. It looks just as good or better, and renders almost 10x faster.

    Dual 14core Xeon CPU E5-2697 v3 @ 2.6GHz
    32GB Ram
    Windows 10
    1050 Nvidia

I managed to get the CPUs off ebay used. This render node was half the price of my dual 10 core xeon workstation when I bought the processors new. I think it all cost me ~$2200 or so a couple years ago, I'd have to go back and add it back up.

    That's 2x faster than the 2990wx.
    Wow!

Not really at this point... I have remote access to a 40 threaded machine if I need to. I do have an option to upgrade to a newer computer, but... the hassle of installing all stuff etc... nahh... I'll wait...
