    Transparency and Refraction

I posted this over to the LW Support FB group but thought that I would post here as well.

    The question:

In LW2019, is there a way to successfully drive transparency via a gradient (using incidence, distance, weight map, etc.) while having Raytraced Refraction enabled?

I came to the following solution but only if I leave the Refrac Option set to Raytrace + Backdrop. If I set it to Raytrace Only, the transparent area turns to black. I also still have to figure out how to retain the reflection on the solid portion of the surface.

Andrew C suggested adding a Spec BTDF and a Material Mixer but I still get black in the transparency.

    I created a test file.

Any thoughts on this? I'm still trying to wrap my head fully around nodes and the new engine. I appreciate the power but miss the prior ease of use.

    Thanks.

    SOLVED.

Per the second image, the Refr setting simply needed to be changed to RT + Background due to my use of an Image World Texture to drive an Environment Light. Thanks to Andrew C. for the assist.
