Error occuring when trying to open an object

I have been working on a character for the last month and today it crashed. I tried to reopen the file and all I get is " a critical error has occurred " I have tried to open it on other machines and in other versions of the program but with the same thing. Is there anyway to recover the file?

Is it an .lwo or an .lws? Have you tried loading the object into Layout?

Usually, even with corrupt model files, Modeller will attempt to load the bits it can read, so makes me wonder if something else has gone wrong.
Was the file originally an obj or something?

Load from scene will help if it's an .lws... you can load each item to see which bit causes the crashing. Usually, but not always, it's 3rd party plugins that cause the issues like this. Or force-quitting LW when it's halfway through a save of an object or scene.

I found the problem. It is with one of the layers in modeler. I can open up a object layer in layout just fine. Is there a way to extract that layer in layout and save it as a different object so I can continue modeling it in modeler.

If you select the layer, you can save the object as another object, but not sure it'll just save that layer. It'll save the whole object, but that one may be okay? Worth trying.
