    Glass for a car windshield

Trying to create a glass texture for a car winshield?

I tried using the obviouse Dielectric material but the windshield just becomes a magnifying glass!

Reducing the refraction index just doesn't work out.

The best I've managed is using the Incidence Node and connecting the output to Spec and transparency channels.

    Any good suggestions?

    Cheers

You have to use an actual glass object... as in thick. Single poly thickness wont co it. See here...

Well I must of been going mad! I tried giving the glass thickness and it still wouldn't work, but going back and doing it again and it's fine.

Thanks for the video, it makes perfect sense, cheers.

I was going to mention the old multi-layer IOR glass trick, but I don't think we need to do that anymore in LightWave 2018 and 2019. Anyway, it's outlined on page 38 here:

Could be an issue with what Lightwave version you use and what you use to preview or final render only.
2015 dielectric material with VPR would not be the same as final render, while 2018-2019 lightwave will render VPR the same as final render, so no surprises on the dielectric material in the renders.
You could also try the PBR material, if you have the later lightwave versions that supports that of course.
