Congratulations to Green Book and David Ridlen (Best Picture, Academy Awards, 2019)

Congratulations to Green Book for winning best picture for 2018. David Ridlen had posted on FB his involvement in the production and screenshots of having used LightWave, so now LW can add being used in Academy Award winning productions to its list!

    Very cool and well deserved!

The film is problematic but I'm sure Davids work on it was great as usual.

Yeah, same for me. I was willing to cut it some slack until I saw that it was Lip's son who'd written and produced it...

When was the social media dirt on the film kicked up? During nomination period? Hmmm...

I have not seen it yet. Steve/Ben, was there something you saw in the film that suggests someone should not see it?

My only issue with it is the selective motion blur on the publicity poster. Disturbing.

Thanks. I am already aware of the topics in the article. This was a drama, not a documentary. What did you think of the film?

I havn't seen it yet, but... frankly speaking... who cares how true it is to history. The point is, America suffers from a lot of racism.

That is the point of the movie... to remind people that racism is far from gone in the USA.

That is where a discussion has to start.

I think it's a great film to see on a rainy sunday afternoon, in front of the telly (as long as you can get past the "great white hero" themes).

I believe you meant to use the wildly popular term "white savior". To be fair, "BlacKKKlansman" utilized Kylo Ren as a white savior as well. I look forward to seeing both films.

While it is reasonable to avoid excessive glorification of a white character helping a black character (darn that Lincoln for using his white privilege...he should have kept to himself) one must recognize that Green Book is written from the perspective of the white character's son and the audience is predominantly white. The business needs to sell tickets.
