Thread: Poor Modeler performance because of low GPU usage ( 2D mode )

Poor Modeler performance because of low GPU usage ( 2D mode )

Everyone knows that Modeler performance is very bad from years. Moving hi-poly objects in viewport is a pain. Moving the same object in Layout is very fast compared to Modeler. I did some tests and noticed that Modeler has poor 3D performance because he works using 2D graphics card mode and he use only 8-10% of GPU power. For example my GTX 1080 works in Modeler using 2D mode 140Mhz, Layout use 3D mode and full 1607Mhz GPU power.

Why Modeler ( 2019 too ) still using slow 2D GPU mode ??

Modler working in edit mode, Layout working in item mode this is the main difference

So every other aplication that I know working in item mode then. I tested other aplications and working in edit mode while moving single points or polygons GPU works in full 3D performance - like LightWave Layout. Why Modeler is an exception ?

Bug it, this is an issue on Macs as well, low GPU utilisation makes Modeler really slow on high resolution displays.

BTW. From my experience the biggest cause in slowing down Modeler are objects with big quantity of surfaces.... Working with files exported from CAD software is sometimes painful.

When point/polygon statistic window is opened modeler performance is even worse.

Modeler 2019 is slower than Modeler 2015 actually. Probably because 2019 version tried to refreshing all other viewports while moving polygons - Modeler 2015 stop refreshing during movement. I reported this.
