    Vegas Pro and .mov files

I have been using Vegas Pro for many years. I have had issues with .mov files in the past but the last 4 or more years it has worked very well. This week I can no longer use any .mov files that come from the TriCaster. I can't even use ones that I have already used that worked before. Anyone else had this experience? Thanks.

I had to reinstall Quicktime 7 back onto the system to get it to work. Make sure you also reinstall the codec tool from NewTek.

I reinstalled Quicktime but that did not work, so I reinstalled the codec from NewTek and that took care of it. I wonder what happened to cause it to stop working.

Just a wild guess. Is this Windows 10 and if so, did you install iTunes from the Window Store on the system?

Windows 10. iTunes not from the Store.
Let me set this straight. I still need Quicktime. I tried uninstalling to see what it would do. It wouldn't even recognize my audio. When I reinstalled QT it now recognized my audio but not my video. Not until I did an install of the NewTek codec did it start working properly again.

I only asked because when I installed the Windows 10 store iTunes version the QuickTime that installed with it messed up the standard QuickTime installer on my system for Avid Media Composer.

If Vegas is using the Apple QuickTime libraries then you would need it and the NewTek codecs to read TriCaster MOV files.

Thanks. It was real weird. It has been working for years. Then the other day it just stopped working and would not work with any .mov files.

This is an old thread, but I also had problems importing the mov from the Studio Monitor into Vegas Pro 18, I just saw the audio. I downloaded the newtek codex as recommended above and now I can see the video and audio. However they are different lengths! The video about 1 minute longer than the audio for a 12 1/2 minute piece. Any ideas of how to correct that or import it correctly? Thanks, James

James, I just tried this in Vegas 17 and it works perfectly.
Perhaps there in an issue with 18 or something is odd with your Studio Monitor settings.

Check the framerate of your incoming feed to see if that might be messing things up along with your audio bitrate?

I used Mediainfo to look at my recorded file and here are the stats:

Vegas is amazing and has always worked with multiple bitrates on the same timeline, so I am not sure what is happening.

PS - I have downloaded 18, but am in the middle of a couple huge projects so it is not installed just yet.

Did you try to reinstall the Newtek codec files. I had to do it in order for Vegas to see the videos.

Thanks for you all help!!! Last week I had to drive my son to college so I am just now getting back and looking into this again.

I had just installed the Newtek codec files on August 18th. That is how I was able to start seeing the video on the Vegas timeline.

My media info is below. In Studio Monitor there are no settings except for where to record the file. Looks like the problem is with the audio file, see the duration and the source duration. Not sure how I get that to match the duration of the video.

James, have you tried in Vegas 17?
I wonder if it is something in V18 causing this?

I was not able to get Vegas 17 to work with native NDI recording. I think Vegas 16 worked (if I recall).

I believe the difference is that Vegas 16 used Apple QuickTime for decoding, which allowed use the NewTek codec.

Starting with Vegas 17, I think they switched to non-Apple QuickTime libraries, which will not use 3rd party codecs. At that point, they will only play the video codecs that they internally support.
