Thread: Merge objects in Layout?

  1. #1

    Merge objects in Layout?

I just want to know if there is a way of merging objects within layout, kind of like in the similar vein of 'Save Transformed'. Even if there is an option to save multiple objects as one object then that would be fine. A plugin to do this would also be fine. LW 9.6 or LW 2018 but both would be cool.

I realise that there may be surface conflicts, though, especially if you have two of the same objects with the same surface name but you choose to treat the surfaces separately in your scene and may have modified one of them. I'm sure there is a workaround for this.

But the crux of the query is if this is possible or not?

I thought he did and was going to mention that earlier, but can't remember the name and using his Invoke Layout Command tool to search isn't helping find it either. You know what it's called?

But I'm going to test Ztreem's suggestion for something quick 'n dirty.

"object to dir" in layout to split layered objects in layout into separated saved objects (with dir. creation/selection)
"directory collapser" in modeler to merge all the saved objects into one piece
this is a very handy combination for many things, particulary for characters coming from apps like poser, which contain many pieces

Sadly, Mike Green's script only half worked.

But the Scene2Modeler script worked, albeit in a 2 part process but it did work in the end. It would be nice to have a one-step-process plugin or script but I can work with this for now.

    Cheers,

Thanks. I'd have never remembered their purpose from the names.

BakeScene works the best in LW 2015.3.
It allows baking not just static objects, but entire animations to MDD files, or generate full scene object sequence.
I was using it with e.g. objects with applied displacements in Node Editors.

There's a better way than all mentioned but Sensei's plugin is more powerful.
Plus third party devs need to flourish in lw to continue.
