    AE Mix/Effects Question

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not since my experience with AE is limited.

    Here are my sources:

NDI graphics feed with alpha (scorebug)
    SDI camera source (live clock)
Other SDI cameras for game coverage

I have created a mix effect with the scorebug and the clock as a PIP. I want to turn that M/E in to a DSK for the program feed. Whenever I try to bring the DSK in, the alpha is lost so I see the bug and the clock surrounded by a whole lot of black. Am I doing something wrong or is the alpha lost as it passes out of the M/E bus?

No, alpha is not passed thru the M/E as you are trying to do. Your A/B/C/D layers are going to form the background, with alpha appearing as black then.

Which TriCaster model? Your signature only lists 855/455.

    Thanks

The output of an M/E is normally a fully opaque frame, just like the output of the main Switcher. You could, I suppose, use LiveMatte to remove a colored background in the M/E for use in a DSK, but there might be better approaches.

Thanks for the reminder on my signature. I have updated it.

I'll have to see if I can just bring them both in as separate DSKs. I was hoping to avoid that, but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

Would it be possible for you to put it in the DSK and crop it using the edge controls? If you needed 'non-square' edges, you could use a second DSK to overlay it with an image with the center part transparent.

    Just a thought...

Props to both Steven and John for pretty elegant options. You could also use a macro to trigger the two DSK's to come up together, if you have enough DSK's available to work with.

Being able to toggle transparency would be a really cool feature to add to the already powerful ME reentry features, though. Feature request it!

I think I got it. I am able to set up my DSK inside M/E 1, then set up a luma key and key it out. Success!

    Thanks!
