Thread: OD 2018 Tool Set Released - And Now OD 2019!

you forget one simple thing... production environment. What i have done, stems entirely from production workflow issues, that I am continuously solving... expecting the lw3dg to do this, is unrealistic, and does not happen in other applications either... not on this scale. The biggest issue currently is the menu system. As 3rd party, we need to be able to attach to any menu.. at that point in time, you wouldn't even know anymore whats 3rd party, and what isn't.

that would be cool. it does bring up a point though; i thought the beta group were production oriented. is that not the case?

one other point. lwg have removed features from 2018 that are very useful in production and then you have had to add in a workaround/solution to add them back in!

    that’s not progress

btw, thank’s for making the tools and putting in the effort it is appreciated.

you cannot expect the lw devs to follow every persons (beta/or not) request.. you'll never finish... just as I will never finish my tools... i probably have another 1000 ideas or so...besides that... the MAJORITY of people.. dont know what they want, until they see the implementation... its easy to see some of the tools i have written and ask the question ? how is that not native ?.. how is it, that noone else has done them ?.. You'll go silly trying to find answers that that..

I for one, am happy that modifications are being made, so that 3rd party CAN do all these things... I'd rather have them focus on giving 3rd party more access, than trying to solve every production issue. cause, that would fail.

I'll give you another example.. take a lot of the scripts of what william (and not just william, but i'll take his as an example) did and is doing for modo... its the same thing there... (and.. anywhere, maya, houdini, blender, really..wherever you choose to look)... those things are done, by people that DO the actual production.. and come up with life savors...

Anyways though.. we are really going off topic here.. lets try to stay on OD Tools related stuff.

The thing to me is that every well implemented good idea seems immediately obvious, self evident and natural. Then one wonders how came that no one had thought of it before. And from there, while we can enjoy the new tool or workflow, we can understandably feel certain unease about development. And yet, we do now have the tool. It's been done with the platform we use, being it internally developed or otherwise. I'm thankful for that.

Oh yeah and I know some stuff only works in LW 2018.

Sorry another edit....some cfg files go into the LW2018.01 folder but within that is a config folder so......”where you put your config files” could be either one (the config folder didn’t work for the licence file ) for the ODtoolset....not bitchin’ just pointing out that there are actually 2 config locations. Again probably just me with my head up my arse......is there an emoji for that?
there's only ONE location where the LW2018.0.2.cfg is stored (lw's config).. sure.. there's another config folder in there, but thats NOT what the email describes. it says where the LW2018.0.2.cfg is stored .. so thats where it goes..

Great stuff Oliver! I look forward to 'playing' with this one when it gets out. Conceivably the Developers and or Users could create useful Presets to be shared? Are there going to be some that come as examples?

My hope with this preset system has always been that people use it to share things... it cant be made easier.
