    Fairy Tree

Sculpted and textures completed in Zbrush, then rendered with Lightwave 3D.

This project started out as an idea about fairies living in an old Oak tree.

The Oak tree is transformed by the fairy magic. A fun project to work on between other projects.

    Hi erikals,

Thank you, I agree, CA won't be present in the next iteration.

I love where this seems to be going - is my understanding correct that this is meant to be small scale, almost "Bonsai" ... ?

If yes, there should be a sense of the items being small, delicate, easily breakable. Plus perhaps a degree of DOF.

    Just my thoughts ...

    Hi Gungho3D,

Thank you, I can see how the image would convey the idea of a small scale, which governed my reason for not using DOF.

Maybe a POV render would better convey the intended scale.

I will position the camera where I originally imagined this project for the next render.

    Composition...

Here is a render of how I originally imagined the composition.

The plan is to draw over the characters, to see what will work.

    DOF, "Bonsai" Render :D

On reflection, I like the idea of a small scale DOF render, so I clicked the DOF button, then hit the Render button......

Hey Renaissance - I must confess I completely mis-read where your artwork was heading, and Bonsai was clearly not it :-)

However, now that you've pushed that button ... here are some additional thoughts:
    - if you are using the old "clouds.tif" as a reflection map on the bonsai "dish", it should go - the current end result looks a bit 1990's - ish
    - instead, place the "bonsai" on a window sill and give the material something to reflect
    - if the space 'outside' the window depicted winter, that could account for the absence of leaves
    - maybe the more unseen 'inside' space could suggest warmer hues?

    I dunno :-) something like that ...

To me, other people's art always seems to suggest a story ...
