A bit of fine tuning on my auto-combing script for Lightwave's FiberFX. I solved the issue of being able to overwrite an existing style map. It's a bit faster than the last version of the bias map generator. Instead of using the pesky and crash prone bias map method, this uses what FiberFX calls a "style", which is stored in the model file. As to why I used this character? She's the most complex model I have on my laptop. I've got some shadowing problems on the muzzle, I probably need to tweak a setting or two under FFX.

The upside to this is that it cuts 4+ minutes off the previous render times, previous renders took upwards of 7 minutes. This took 2m and change.
(My laptop is a 1st Gen i7 @ 1.6Ghz (boost to 2.8Ghz), so that time is pretty good.)

    Cool! Nice work, Kryslin.

Will you be updating the released tools anytime soon? No hurry, just curious.

I think this is release worthy now (provided I remember to remove the debug statement ), but I'd like to update the bias show tool to show the style ( or styles ) embedded in the model file... maybe. Actually, I should be able to do it, because I think the dimensions data will contain the number of dimensions for each entry...

Oliver : Style -> Geometry in the OD tools download of 18 July 18 does not have the weight map option. Is this coming in a future release? The strands are created with a hair length weight map, however...

Edit : never mind, the maps are there... Just no option for it anymore on the tools GUI.

Tests are going well, though I would like to improve the mesh following a bit.
Two more meshes to test on, and this will be ready for release. So, Saturday, maybe?

I may have hit on the trick to follow the mesh topology last light while working on the problem on paper.

OFF : And that's the old biascomb script, too. May I ask what version of Lightwave you're using?

OFF : Thanks for your answer. Was the model imported from a previous version of LW, or created under 2018?

The reason I'm asking is that I have had some difficulty with the bias combing script with some of my models, but they are all imported from a previous version of Lightwave, be it 11.x, or 2015.x.

I also suspect incompatibility between even minor revisions of FiberFX as well.

*edit* And I've got a good, contour tracing algorithm now. Flow of fur, for the most part, follows the mesh. I need to switch between my old, good for 95% for the time vector routine, and "adjacent point farthest from brush surface" algorithm, or at least blend, at that most problematic of areas... the back of the head.

I'm particularly proud of how the area around the eyes turned out.

The old algorithm handled this much better.

    Back to thinking...
