    Any compelling reason to update?

    We're running a TC460 standard edition. Build #2-3-140820B.

We are routinely running three cameras in studio with a sat feed going to input 4. No need at this time for AE or anything like it.

Are there any compelling reasons to update our standard edition software from this version?

NDI in and out would be reason enough for me, but no doubt there have been a lot of other changes. I think "Instant Replay" option was added later than your version. Overall performance, stability. I would be updating.

OK. Keep in mind we would be staying with Standard Edition. Would NDI (and other items) still be part of the update?

Yes, your NET inputs will gain NDI connectivity. Beyond the new NDI support the build you are running is several years old and the new update will have several improvements which can be found in the readme on the downloads page.

OK. I found a PDF for the installation of updates. I recall the update process has some particular steps, and I sure do not want to jack this up. If someone has a link to the current update process, I just want to be sure it matches with what I located. Please share, so I can do this right, and do it once.

I don't like the auto update. Rather, I will choose the DOWNLOAD ONLY option when downloading, usually on another PC. I then move the downloaded files to TriCaster using a USB 3.0 thumb drive. Then just RUN the .exe file and give it 10-15 minutes and good to go, no hoops to jump through.

When I copy the software update files to TriCaster, I save it in a SAVE folder I'd created on the D: drive, reason being if you ever need to RESTORE, that wipes the C: drive and then your update is gone and you'd have to re-download again. By saving on D: the update is always available to run again if and when I need it.

One thing I'm not positive on, seeing as your software is so old - is whether there would be any compatibility issues with old Sessions. I know when moving to AE, old SE sessions don't work. I think you are okay SE to SE, but Newtek staff would know for sure. Has not been an issue for me when keeping up with updates on my machine.

EDIT: since your machine has not been updated in a few years, what I would do is to run the RESTORE first to refresh the machine back to "New, as shipped" and then install the update. This would exorcise any demons that might have built up in Windows over time. Just keep in mind this will erase custom virtual sets, custom transitions, etc. that you might have added, so you'd want to have backups of those things. Sessions and Media would not be touched.

    Thanks

    Jeff
