Thanks darkChief ! I can confirm the crash when loading some demo scenes is gone

Works! Though I'm finding that once I do a Sim, even though I can now load another demo scene and then make the changes in the scenes to the required demo scene particle and frame limits, I get a crash when I actually do the next Sim, especially if it's a more complicated one.

I have 32 gigs of ram and an Nvidia 970 GTX graphics card with 4 gigs ram. Maybe I need more system memory?

Also had an instance where my graphics card had informed me of an issue of some kind. I had GPU selected at the time, and had selected to do the Sim, and was informed that my graphics card "had recovered". Not sure what happened here, but I noticed that GPU was no longer available, and I was switched to CPU. That condition persisted until I quit LW and restarted it.

Could be user error! I know very little about the plugin

    Any thoughts?

I'd like to buy the plugin, but need to know it's going to work properly with LW 2018.

I can confirm the crash, it is a bug, will try to post an update soon. In the meantime you can simply restart Lightwave between scenes.

As for the "had recovered" problem, could be numerous things. Make sure there's no other GPU intensive applications in the background, like OpenGL fighting for the GPU. This can cause idleness and your card may reset the driver. If that happens I recommend restarting your computer. Otherwise if you notice a pattern, let me know. I've noticed OpenCL runs differently on different hardware. The problem can also be caused by lack of GPU memory, but you have more than enough for the set particle limit.

Still waiting for more info about how different cards behave. The reports so far I've gotten is that it works on Nvidia cards. If someone else can confirm problems with GTX 1080 will try to dig deeper.

However, according to the error, some of the kernels are running properly. So could be a memory corruption. Which leads me to ask what are you trying to simulate? Something is probably creating Nan values.

its provided demo scene called apple.lws .. i have manually switched from cpu to GPU calc and set 120 frame / 80 000 particle limit... in CPU mode all works fine.. in gpu mode it doesnt work ... i wonder why cause i dont have any problems with other gpu based apps

my gfx card is gigabyte 1080 gtx 8gb memory latest drivers 391.35

    update:
now i have tested basic_scene.lws and it works proprely... must be somethin with apple.lws scene settings that is problematic with my gpu

    Hey Everyone,

I'm proud to announce that Deep FX has released the first in a seris of introductory training videos that will cover Deep Rising FX in-depth. Of course everything is free and can be accessed through YouTube.

More videos will be uploaded periodically.

    Regards,

    Enjoy!

Pretty impressive I must admit. The foam and viscosity are eye catching. FLIP is different (things like object emitters come naturally).

I'm not going to compare it to Deep Rising yet. When I get a more powerful computer I will "show" instead of "talk". All the simulations you see in my channel were done on a netbook and an 10yr old PC with no hyper threading.

I read some of the statistics on the solver they use, and from the timings I can say Deep Rising is faster still. And it's uses the GPU fully, where the FLIP can only partially go parallel (advantages or Lagrangian vs Euler methods).

The ocean stuff you can do in Deep Rising (he's actually using a popular SPH paper for the foam, which shows similar results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_UB2k4QXiA ), if anyone with a workstation is willing to give it a shot. Of course no foam yet.

Development has slowed down because I can't work on Deep Rising full time, working on something else that will hopefully boost the features for DR and deliver other technologies for LW and beyond.

    And Cycles looks really good.
