Migrating Lightwave textures to another editor?

I have access to a laptop with Lightwave for 1 week in order to migrate some LWO models over to 3ds Max. Exporting the models to FBX preserves all the smoothing groups and all the content in the Surface editor, but none of the textures from the Image editor. Other export options do even worse.

If I have a model that looks like this
    https://s17.postimg.org/dfleo0byn/222.png

then in 3ds Max it ends up like this
    https://s10.postimg.org/jitk0l2u1/333.png

with all the colored surfaces intact but none of the textures. I checked the Max import for broken texture directory links but none exist. Is there a way to export the textures in LW? Thanks.

In Modeler and in Layout are two different fbx exporters. "Send" model to Layout and there export fbx with "embedded textures".

Check also if you don't must triangulate mesh (Shift+T in Modeler) before export to fbx. Maya for example had problem with quad polys and import sometimes as empty space/holes.

When working between Lightwave and Terragen, PoseRay (free) works quite good for OBJ files.
You can load LWO files into PoseRay and export as OBJ directly too if you want.
Not sure if it would help you, but worth a look maybe.

FBX works great in LW with Maya and Zbrush, so there should be no issues in Max. It's a great format that saves so much time, even preserving morphs if you're doing CA.

Check you're also moving over the texture folder to Max FBX creates. You may also need to tweak the FBX settings as there are dated versions.

If the textures are not images (example : procedural) as in any 3D software you have to baking them for export as images.

You need to bake procedural textures to image files...

I am doing it in f.e. video tutorial of Batch Baking Camera
