    Question Complex looping animation?: snake around a column

    How might one approach this?:

    Imagine a classic column. A snake winds UP the column, and then back down, forming a seamless looping animation?

    How?

    Yep, Also try using a Closed spline setup, also with bones. Never tried it but from other tutorials I've seen - it would work

    you would get a helical spline track up and then down the column and it would be continuous.

    It's not really the action per se I'm worried about, but the REPEATING SEAMLESSLY. I think Kevbarnes may have the likeliest scenario. I'll let you know!

    Notes:
    1
    This scene has a separate controller to drive the Z distance along the spline - make it easier to control
    (RebillHill Tip). Bone1 is animated in the Z using Follower before IK

    The set up is as Lino suggested with a redundant master bone0,

    To make it smoother looking you would probably need to double the number of bones and double the number
    of controls - just to make the path more circular.

    I have also animated the Z distance from Bones2-10 this make the snake stretchy a bit and cause
    it to slow down on the bends.
