    Stairwell Scene (Poleis)

I've just finished this 10-second vignette. I started the work around mid-2013, stopped at the beginning of this year, and then resumed again this December. This was intended as a still image CG environment piece. Mid-way, I decided to introduce a character to add some context and texture, and made it into an animation.

    My workflow:
-I used LW to assemble and place all my assets
-Some assets, especially the inner room, were random stock geo from various places, some of which became either redone or modified to fit its purpose in the scene; most of the modelling of the set was in LWM
-The character was completely modelled from scratch (by me); though mostly done in LW, some parts were redone in Maya (during rigging)
-I used Sculptris for the initial concept of the head, and ZBrush was used to define/refine the rest; ZB was also used to create normal maps and displacement maps for the character
-LW rendered the scene; obviously, all shading was done LW with the help of photographs and other images for textures
-Character was brought into Maya for rigging (AdvancedSkeleton was used); I animated the character, then brought into LW.
-After Effects was used for grading, compositing and other post-effects

I have a Tumblr blog that tracked the process, albeit intermittently, of the making of the vignette: tumblr.com/blog/poleis-whitewar/stairwell

It looks very nice, a fair few assets in there too. Are you going to build around this scene or do a series of vignettes on this theme?

I hope to create more vignettes (and longer ones, more substantial ones) around the 'world'. However, I have several other things I'm working on that is thematically different. It's just a matter of which one can keep my interest long enough.
