    X-keys

    Hi!
I have a question about our Tricaster Mini that we have ordered. We plan to use a P.I Engineering X-Keys XKE-128 (http://x-keys.com/xkeys/xk128.php) keyboard as Control Surface. I also saw that X-Keys have a joystick keypad (http://xkeys.com/xkeys/xk12Joystick.php) and wounder if that would work with Tricaster Mini to control the remote cameras.

I asked P.I Engineering about it and thier answer was:
"It depends, I’m not familiar enough with Tricaster to know what type of commands it sends for P/T/Z , our joystick sends out basic x,y,z coordinate commands, if Tricaster is sending out dmx commands our joystick would not work"

So my question is what protocol/commands do Tricaster use for P/T/Z from the joystick on the bigger control surface? And could the X-Keys joystick work with Tricaster Mini? And if it works. Is there some programing I need to do in the joystick keypad?

If I can't use the X-KEY joystick, is it possible to program the buttons on the X-KEY keyboard for pan/tilt/zoom/iris?

We would liked to have bought the bigger CS with Joystick but we can´t afford that because we need to invest in other things too. And it is also hard to motivate to spend more money on the CS than what Tricaster Mini cost in itself.

PTZ cannot be controlled through the TriCaster without using the mouse or the CS joystick. No other joysticks will work in this situation.

Depending on the cameras you plan on using, you might also look at purchasing the manufacturer's own controller for the cameras. Still would be less than the CS and give you more capabilities on the camera side too.

Thanks for the answer. We will be using Sony SRG-300H, so we are looking into the Sony RM10IP. It would for sure be lot cheaper to go with the Sony Panel and a X-Key panel than the 460CS. We have the TC40CS, but there is some functions on that we do not like. One is how the DSK activation works. So with a X-KEY we can build it how ever we want it to work. Our hope was that we could program P/T/Z on the buttons to do some simple pan tilt and zoom so we don't need an extra panel.

You could program the X-Keys to perform PTZ Preset selections with PTZ. However trying to emulate manual joystick control would be very difficult (it wouldn't operate anything like how a joystick works).

    MIDI App... perhaps?

MIDI would not be emulate a joystick either.

But I'm always looking for a solution...

    @Kanep:

You may have seen my other post about this. I HAD and X-keys working to select and take the PTZ camera presets but can't seem to get the key combo again.

I've been going through every combination but can't seem to find it. Any ideas?

    Thanks a ton!
If you're not outraged by all this, then you aren't paying attention.

There aren't default keyboard shortcuts for the PTZ presets. You would need to make macros and then assign them as triggers to the keyboard shortcuts you programmed into the X-Keys unit.

The Sony SRG-300H PTZ cameras are not supported by TriCaster.
