Speed Modeling Challenge #270 - Strawberry

Speed Modeling Challenge #270 - Strawberry

    Rules:
    1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modelling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
    2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger. (For wireframe help go to: http://www.artssphere.com/plugins/polygoncoloring.php
    3. LightWave must be used for modelling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
    4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
    5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
    6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's.

    *************************************************

This week's challenge : Model any part of a strawberry during any phase of growth. OK to focus solely on the flower, fruit, seed, leaf, root system, hairs on a stem - or go for a wider shot in the render by daring to model the whole plant. OK to push the creativity further, by using geometry that exists in a strawberry plant to build something else (e.g - a strawberry pillow, strawberry chesterfield couch, strawberry coke bottle, something ornamental or abstract).

    Modeling Time : 60 minutes.

    Challenge Ends 2200GMT, 5 Sep 2014.

WIP. Progress, but it's been a long ...long ...long road.
Don't know how long it'll take for me to finish.
The strawberry has taken me about 2 years & 10 hrs so far!
    <sigh>

{{whoof}} Incredible effort for a speed modeling challenge, Art Goblin!
What's happening with the umbrella-like wires above the leaves? Looks really interesting

5th Sep is here in Oz, but I'm quite a few hours ahead with the world clock time.
Passing The Winner baton over to you if there's nothing else across 24hours!

Not quite 99% there, it feels more like 32%!

Looks to me like you just need to run a point-clone operation on the points inside the holes to clone the cores in there. That and a stilk

The umbrella like wires is the mesh I'm using to deform the stilk leafes. They are then planar mapped and cut with an alpha map from the object-properties panel.

how are you deforming the leaves with another mesh? is that in modeler? or a layout thing.

try the car paint node on the strawberry =) that might be interesting
