Thread: fiberfx, I hate you

    fiberfx, I hate you

I'm coming to grips with the fact that almost every F9 render with fiberfx causes LW to crash, but I can't figure out why the bump setting doesn't affect even default fibers on a simple plane.

Did that get killed in the last build?

    LW 11.6.3 build 2737

I've gone back to 11.6 and things are much better now, but I still hate you fiberfx.

Anybody know if LW2015 has a working version of fiberfx? I have to have 3 versions of LW installed right now because of fiberfx's bugginess on OSX and lack of realistic fur. (one is LW9.6 just to run sasquatch)

A lot of improvements to FFX were done in 2015. Were you submitting bug reports? This way the dev team can see if the problems you had were addressed. If not, then they can work on getting your crashes fixed in the next version.

I wish the forum and Fogbugz intercommunicated so we could see who was actually submitting bug reports. 0_o

Yes! A few FiberFX features that got broken during 11.6.x are working again in 2015. Even better, FiberFX is supposed to be compatible with multisample lights now. That one has been long time coming for me--can't wait to check it out. Thanks LW3DG. Yay!

Just in time for us too. We're wrapping up our current animated short project and planning to revisit 'Brudders 2' next. (Okay, after Brudders in 'Scareplane' earlier this year, it's now 'Brudders 3', I guess. Cats can't count so it really doesn't matter.)

The upcoming FiberFX Octane compatibility look very interesting. Unfortunately for me, my computer and graphics card isn't beefy enough for it. Guess I need to think about getting a new computer in 2015.

I'm a sucker. I bought LW2015 and every fiberFX scene I've rendered recently in 11.6 crashes in 2015 on F9 or when adjusting the settings to match the previous renders. Maybe I need to check out modo for fur and hair.
