Wow, I decide to stay away a day and let things settle and the inevitable happens. Ok, actually expected it sooner!

Thanks to the many for their handling of the comments!

Just a short reply though, for almost the entire time of my usage of 3D Apps or working in them, I have been first and foremost a Modeler. Modeling, Modeling, Modeling, and did not specialize in Rendering, nor CA or such.

Most of my Content that I created ended up in others projects, in their scenes and animations.

Worked 2 years at a TV Studio in the States ara 94-96, 3 years on RTL Productions ara 1999-2003, and now over 12 years in the ARD Network Family (German 1st Network). As well as providing technical support to artists and studio at other times for various packages as 3D Max, Blender, C4D, Adobe Suites and so on. . ..

So yeah... you are not gonna find much pretty renders out there from me!

But enough said I think. (Peach Out).

Anyways, I thought the OP asked the question Why C4D?? Are we not allowed to answer that?

    Cheers

wouldn't put that much into it, they were looking for a Modeler developer a few years back as well.

i'm more curious about the Hydra development, LW12 will show...

"i'm more curious about the Hydra development, LW12 will show..."

Isn't the guy that left the one who created Hydra?

  6. #261

    yep, David Ikeda.

he created the Hydra geometry engine.
that does not mean however that the LW programers can't continue to implement it,
something i assume they will do,
as far as i have read they should be quite capable, based on David's comments.
continuing someone else's work though is always a big job.

erikals - I do not believe HYDRA will be updated. Ok you can call me pessimistic but LW - facing same issues with different coders. Original coders of LW left NT... original coder of Chronosculpt -left NT..

i mean nobody said nothing after his departure... but it is a big blow. Do we even know there will be an update for chronosculpt anyway....

not quite, Hydra itself is basically finished afaik, it's the implementation that is the next step.

yes, but even after 13 years Modo still hasn't surpassed LightWave,
and that is even though 5 guys or so left NewTek LightWave,
+ those guys already had the Modeler code to use legally, not sure about Layout.

so... well... when you add that to the Core story and that David left,
it's actually not that badly pulled off...

but honestly, from a selfish point of view, all i really care about at the moment
is how and when the Modeler / Layout workflow will be fixed,
and how this will affect for instance Motion Graphics work in LightWave

Rob said they are working on it in the LightWave December 2013 Japan presentation

Who said that and what's the measure of who surprased who? any link for that scientific research to prove that ? What was compared ? Modeling sure isn't 'coz result woudl be different then .

    as a complete animation package

at the moment it's a tie, again, imo

but i know some feel differently,
and maybe i too will change my mind in not too long.
    maybe even with Modo 901...

    we / i shall see...

...and, i think you know as well as i do that a discussion about this
could continue until the last teardrop falls... > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIGRHpa70_s

Well I am a little concerned. 3 mos. and no updates to the youtube channel. Forums seem to be slower imo. Silence... I love LW but man.

That is a very interesting statement.

I feel it should be qualified somewhat, if we are to be fair.

Yes, 13 years startiing over, taking what they could. But the 3 most important facts. 1) They were the original innovators of LightWave - a program that in its time had a huge impact on the industry with the features/price point. 2) They are no longer with the current LightWave team and they started a new company and app. You have to give this the proper importance. Regardless of why they did it. This is what happened. I give these guys my vote to do something innovative over whoever was left to pick up the pieces. and 2A) LightWave as it is, are those pieces and.. 3) Time. Yep. It has taken them 13 years to get this far. Much of the development in animation was done in the last 3 years on top of groundwork laid down very methodically over 10 years.

So what does this translate to? It translates to one app that still exists on old technology that waited way too long to start rebuilding. It translates to Modo being the app to look to for new and exiting developments. If, that is, we are going to go and start making comparisons like "it has yet to surpass..."

If that is the case, I'd say based on the current rate of development I'd look to Modo to surpass LW easily in the next 2 years.

Meanwhile LightWave will be getting some much needed love. I just don't think you can make that kind of comparison, fairly, without proper perspective.

i share your concerns, and again, the comparison was from my pov, and heck, i could be wrong.
i wouldn't put too much into that one sentence i wrote...

but like i said, we'll just have to see where Foundry / Newtek takes us next...
