I just need add few tings .... I was wrong .... Nepton 280l do not fit in Fractal Design R4 with some boards and Nepton 280L itself is very loud with stock fans. Unbearable loud ... as it is h100i.
I have white Fractal Design Define R4 case and it is top quality.

We'll played... You will not be disappointed. For cooling with the h60, follow the link in my previous post, as this contains assistance and posts from spherical which made me rethink my fan and airflow setup, resulting in dramatic drops in idle and load temps.

Fractal looks good! I'm using Corsair Obsidian 650D. Crappy quality. The Front case fan died in less than a year. The front panel has 2 usb3 cables that clumsily connects to the back of the usb3 ports broke within 1.5 year. In my pov, Corsair has inferior quality products and that goes with their so-called performance rams too.

None of this (knock wood) has been my experience; except of course for the USB cables from the front panel. Even then, those weren't a big deal. But, then, my stuff always lasts a long time. Get a USB3 motherboard header cable and swap out the front connectors.

I need help with a workstation build. It is used for Facebook, email and training that involves streaming videos. Already have a 1080p display. I'm not sure how I feel about going micro atx. I would like a mid size tower and want to be able to upgrade in the future. I have windows 10 from the free upgrade on my current computer so I think I will have to get a new copy.

I'd buy a motherboard that will allow for future expansion as you say. Then budget as much as you can for the items you don't want to have to switch often. HDD's Then look at benchmark sites to see how much value you get for the money on speed for both GPU and CPU. I use these sites quite a bit... easy to add ram if you buy correct pairs for future with enough slots in mind. GPU is easy to switch out as well as CPU. So you could get it "running" but not where you want to be in 3 months with another $1,500. Good luck, have fun!

So I have an issue. My friend asked for me to build him a PC for photo and video editing for about 1,000 euros or 1,200 dollars (yes, his work is legit and he works with a lot of models). I do know how to put together a pc, I do know a lot of parts, but like always I just can't choose. I really want it to be good. I am not sure when I should take budget option and when I should don't worry about good investment. So my head went with Intel immediately. It's not because I don't like AMD, it's just seems trustworthy to me, I would risk, if it was my build. My research showed that all Workstations for video and photo really need is powerful CPU and lots of RAM. Okay.

I have a somewhat related question.

Recently, I replaced my aging workstation with a mobile workstation. I like my new computer but I'm thinking of reviving the old one to use as a render box and mocap slave node. Anyway, the problem with my old computer (an 7- or 8-years-old i7,) was that the motherboard was dying so I'm going to need to replace that, and I'll probably wish to replace the processors, etc, with modern equivalents. I imagine with a new motherboard, my Windows license will become invalid, and I'll need to replace that too.

Sooo...should I bother? Or is it smarter (i.e., cheaper or at least comparable in price) to instead get a brand new machine with similar capability and modern parts? I don't really want to put a lot of money into this effort since I just bought a new computer.

Hmm...I may have answered my own question in writing this post, but I would still like to hear opinions from the more knowledegable users here.

I would look for a refurbished PC with the same (or close enough) performance than trying to upgrade an old processor / MB combination. I'm kind of in the same boat with my workstation, it's 6 years old, and I can't find a MB that will take the processor any more. So when I upgrade (Next Year, hopefully), it will be a rebuild.

You could pick up refurbished HP workstations (Single Xeon, 16GB) for $700 off of Newegg not all that long ago.

I have had the 4930K for over 4 years now and it has been pretty good for what I do which up until now has been mostly Arch ViZ exteriors. I'm looking at getting a Threadripper 2990WX PC next. If I do it will end up being the most expensive PC I have owned. My first PC back in 2000 was an AMD Athlon K7-700 so since then I have always been a bit of an AMD fan boy I guess and I have only used Intel products when they made more sense. Now that Threadrippers are out that has really ignited my interest in AMD CPUs again. I opt for more cores and threads over single core performance myself whenever possible.

I priced parts and barebones systems after I posted that, but nothing beats the deal you mentioned above. If I got something like that, I could salvage my graphics card, SSDs, USB 3 cards, and be better off without breaking the bank.
