Thread: Skew a mesh

    Skew a mesh

    Hi

Sorry for the bad quaality of the picture but I think it can help to explain what I want to get.

I have a mesh like the number one, but I need the wireframe the way it's in the picture 2. It's a bandage over the bottle. Any idea how to get it?

Use the exterior loop of the first as a drill into a mesh like the second. IOW, a 2d boolean (that's what 'drill' is).

You could use heat shrink to conform a mesh of the second kind to the first.

Well, as usual I didn't explain it correctly, sorry.

I need a continuous band with the borders very close, covering the bottle but without overlaping, like a peeled apple but very uniform band to extend later. What Erikals linked might help: I'll take a look

    Thanks for your help

Make a cylinder in Layer 2 slightly larger than the bottle, then use a combination of Shear tool and Heatshrink to wrap the bottle. Slice polys at appropriate points top and bottom. 3dpowers have a Heatshrink plugin on steroids. It costs though.

You could also try spline patching concentric circles down the bottle, a basic form of retopologising.

Heat shrink sounds good (I don't have it).

You could also just make a spiral cylinder and get your bottle shape with tools using falloff or weight maps.

Thanks everybody, very nice tips. I think using heatshrink and the plugin Erikals showed us in his videotut works good.

Now I have to get the bandage covering the bottle from the beginning, so I think using a backwards video would be the best way. I "only" need to undo what you help me to do: unwind that bandage

Took a quick jump at it anyway for my own curiosity's sake.
