However, I decided to use Texture Displacement as more opportunities to model form (shape).
For wheel rim i use Morph.

So, are the 3 layers one each for X, Y, Z????

    Outstanding work!

All flowers to Lewis! But this seemed to me the easiest method for this case.

Tried to do the tire and do the flattening with some morphs with this but I don't have 11.6 setup for me yet and Raycast made Layout freeze several times, so I went with simpler.

Following the 11.6 Content scene "Raycast_Deformation", there's an eye and a simpler mesh sphere to deform it with some morphs applied to it (cilinder and cone) but you can just scale it and will get the eye deformed.

You can see the Eye is spinning on the Pitch and still sticks to the deformer.

I couldn't make a rest position, so if there's any offset it will be felt. The proper way like I shown in the previous video in Softimage would be to have two copies of the deformer, one to define the base position, the other to define the offset. So it would be not the eye getting it's closest location to an 'S' shape, but getting it's closest location to something that after deforms like an 'S' shape and the eye follows. Right now it's whatever is in range.

    Hope it inspires someone

    Cheers

There are Morph deformation and Texture rotate with channel follower.
