    Bones and Objects

I am having a problem adding bones to an object ( simple tube ). When I go to activate the bones the object jumps away from the rig.

    1. load object (tube) and select the object
    2. add first bone then child bones (12 in total)
    3. default settings for bones
    4. select activate bones

the object jumps off center and to the left of the rig. If I deactivate the bones the object jumps back to the proper position. the object is default center of the lightwave scene.

Switch the bones off, make sure you select the bones of the object and 'rest' them before activation. They should then be associated with the mesh.
If you've resized the bones by any other method other than using rest length in the bone properties this would result in distortions and the behaviour you're describing.

    Did you rest them?

All bones are at rest before activation.

if I turn off deformation the object snaps back into correct position. turning it back on it jumps

The r key on your keyboard may not be associated with the function. Have you tried using the buttons - rest bone orientation?

Yep, youve either not rested your bones, or youve scaled them, or youve scaled the mesh, or some combination thereof.

I am not new to rigging but it's been awhile sine I've used it, the bones where not scaled.
I'd upload a screen grab but the up loader is not working the upload busy symbol just rotates and rotates and rotates nada upload.

And with "rest" everybody means running "Record Bone Rest Position", which binds vertices to bones, and not "Record Pivot Rotation/Position", which resets the percieved rotation of bones. Just thought I'd clarify that as that missunderstanding has been not too uncommon in the past.

Good point. To help people new to rigging how about LW3D group introduce some colour coding in setup e.g highlighting this button as *red*as it's so essential! Any thoughts?

In Production mode, it's buried in a drop down menu...

I've noticed in some installations of LW pressing r for rest doesn't always work - anyone else come across this?

Eastcoastcreati, how about uploading your scene or equivalent as there are so many helpful wavers on the forum who will help you fix this.
