    Star travel

I wrote plugin for LW for rendering universe from star database.

View from Earth in direction of Betelgeuse, it's pretty much in the center of this image.
Below is Orion Belt and more below on left there is Sirius.

    Render with motion blur:

I rendered star travel in direction of Sirius and beyond.

At 6 second since beginning we're passing Sirius, therefor it disappears.

Speed is approximately 44% of parsec per second of animation.

    If you're interested, PM me.

wow... some weeks ago I thought about why nobody is creating something like this, now you have done. Very nice! Would be also nice to use this for exterior night scenes (specially if there would be a moon, too).

Definitely interested, I've been hoping for a hyperstars / hyperspace replacement for some time.

StarPro has always had the $249 price tag. No problem for a studio I suppose, but it would be nice to have something easy to use / set up at a more reasonable price.

Interesting...not sure I would need it though, the avi was a little slow to play trough, canīt you save it out to mov format?

Also..consider record your screen while you start the plugin and showcase how it sets up if you can.

Given LightWave's heritage, I think it's a shame the app doesn't have something like this built in. I loved Hyperstars/Hyperspace - shame it went to the large (and ever-growning) graveyard of defunct LW plug-ins.

    Usage it rather easy.

Click Universe Simulator button, pick up star database, it's imported.
Then add Universe Simulator custom object to see star names in viewport, for better orientation.

In the center there is Sun/Sol, so place camera 0,0,0 if you want view from Earth point of view.

Add Universe Simulator node, pick up attribute you want, and do whatever you want with it. It's in standard astronomic units.

Give color to stars within range 0-6 Apparent Magnitude, and the rest fade away with 12 completely not visible using Gradient node:

Apparent Magnitude 6.0 are stars barely visible by human eye.

With too extreme settings, we're starting seeing every pixel is some star from our galaxy:

It's rather for people who want to render star travels, look from Moon with stars, or some human satellite travel in our Solar system with stars that are in correct places with correct magnitudes (instead of random fake pattern)..

Actually StarPro was (I believe) twice the price at $499. It only came down a couple of years ago to that lower price.
