An impressive feat considering how bad the economy has been these last five years.

I tip my hat to you!

And so now you are contemplating going into debt to get a car?

BUY LW upgrade and then model yourself a car so you'll have both, win-win

A toss up really, on a way but you are saying "down payment" that means beyond that there will be more payments to be made and less chance to save for the upgrade.
so if you dont need the car right away, get the upgrade, then save again for the downpayment.

A word of advice - do try to put down as much money as you can for the car, get a loan approved in advance from the bank/credit union, etc.

Which will enable you to make more progress to a sounder financial footing? There's little point having LW if future progress will require you to be independently mobile. If you've not missed the car since September 2012, and have no need of it now (unlikely in the US), that's also an indication.

I'm really not at all convinced that bank accounts make sense, either. The interest rate is so low that you're losing money to inflation.

    Get both....
    Or just the car...

Seriously if you've been living debt free...then you are a responsible person. Our entire economy revolves around the idea of credit, and although it may be flawed to the core....that is the way it works.

You will probably pay it off in good time.

If nobody borrowed money....everyone would still live with their parents....there is advantages to financing, as long as we are responsible.

I have a minor disability that becomes major at times, then I can usually get a ride, But sometimes like Saturday morning, I had a meeting for my new cable show, (Shrock n Roll Show) and I barely made it in time.

I live in a very small logging and fishing village, there are no "new" car dealers here! I'd be buying a $3000-4000 car, with $800-$1000 down. I'll probably trade some animation or art as well, I have done that a few times here.

I looked at a 2011 Smart Car, $12,000 but pretty neat.

I did read somewhere that parts & maintenance on a Smart "Will tear you a second A... H..."

I've got an old Seat Ibiza 95 1.4, 200,000 km on the clock, cheap to run & still going really well, doesn't burn oil, AC still works very well, did put some new rear door struts on & got them from UK as it was cheaper than here..... & originally paid cash for it!

We don't have Seats or Vauxhalls here, just Kia, Toyota, Nissan and the "Big Three". I did like the cars in Europe. I want to get a car 2007 or newer, I had the Saturn for 14 years.

We don't have them anymore either. Only for a few years. I think VW felt the Seat was a touch too much distraction for their other similar cars..... Polo! Maybe you find an old one of these!

Nissan Versa sedan, new ones 2012 run around 10k-11k - best to get a pre-approved loan from credit union then go shop for the car.
