    Rules:

    1. Every week there will be a subject for you to model along with a time limit. You should spend no longer than the allocated time, then post a render of your model. As in most challenges like this, your honesty on modeling times is essential. How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what is asked for.
    2. Post a wire-frame and a render at 800x600 or larger.
    3. LightWave must be used for modeling. 3rd party Plug-ins are allowed.
    4. You can enter as many times as you like, posting each in this thread. If you run over the time, the model can still be posted but won't be subject to the judging.
    5. Time spent on texturing, setting up a scene for a render and rendering is not included in the allocated period.
    6. The winner is judged by the challenge starter and the prize is to set up the challenge after next week's.
    *************************************************

This week's challenge: Laser Pistols, Ray guns & Blasters! Han Solos side arm, Picards Phaser, a steam punk ray gun, you name it... let's see some sci-fi pistols that will blow us all away! "Nothing beats a good blaster kid"! Examples above... good luck! [Closing Date 6th December, sorry, I think I'm running a day late!]

    Time limit: 90 minutes

Wow! that is looking awesome! How did you get the kind of, frosted glass look... with that blue glow inside? Great work swampy! I'd best get my act together and have a go soon.

Lovely looking render there XswampyX, I really like the copper discolouration, overall it's a very nice image.

    Thanks guys!

The blue glow is just a spherical light put inside the group of glass tubes. They aren't frosted, they just look like they are.

That first render is lovely XsX.
I want to pick it up and that's usually the ultimate aim of my product renders.

I can't compete with XswampyX, but being a fan of Marvin Martian, I thought I'd whip out his ray gun. Well under the 90 minutes.

So, by law, I guess every ray gun has to have some glowing stuff right??

I'm late 'cuz I refused to believe I couldn't figure out why I'm getting that hard line cutting off the green.
A 5 minute "let me see" turned into an hour. C'est la vie.

Any ideas about what's causing that????

    Here's the wires....

Nice Raygun JoePoe, Look erm painfull.

That line is where your green fluid intersects with your outer glass.
It happens when you use a sub-patched surface. The fluid has no top geometry so it doesn't follow the same bend/smoothing as the glass.
