    Windows Update Question

I want to verify that NewTek has no issues with update Windows 7 operating system with Microsoft's updates. I work with Avid and they are paranoid with Windows updates. I assume that it okay to apply all the windows updates that Microsoft recommends. Is that correct?

    Thanks in advance.

I don't speak for Newtek, but what I have been told is don't do it.

I agree. TriCaster isn't a PC. It is a video appliance built on a PC/Windows frame, and should be thought of like any other piece of video gear you have. It is tuned for real time performance, and should only be updated when NewTek puts something out for it. That applies to Windows, drivers, flash, etc.

As the old saying goes - if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

There is no mention of this in manual, but it is a common question.
Unfortunately the forum search seems to miss out the last few years of threads, but I recall the standard answer being don't do it. Anyone with a stock Tricaster want to check to see if updating is off by default? If so that would seem to be the official answer until Steve weighs in. I believe the Newtek released version updates include Windows updates, at least the larger ones do if memory serves.

Dont do it, i did one round of windows update and a flash update and i had to reset it back to factory standards in my tricaster 300. I am even afraid to install new flash updates to get the streaming working with Ustream and other web applications.
I need flash for streaming, but that can mess up the ticaster software and SpeedEDIT
EZ dose it, but do it!

That pretty much echoes the official word on the matter. Basically, unless there's compelling reason (i.e., a specific problem and CS tells you this is the thing to do), don't do it. If you do, you're kind of in no-mans-land.

Thanks for the information. I have a Microsoft fanboy that is one of my IT guys and the 1st thing he does when he gets to a computer is try download all the Windows updates. I almost had to break his arm to stop him when he got his hand on our TriCaster 850.

You have to think of it as a device, not a general purpose computer.
