Football Webcast Tomorrow Featuring StatCrew XLM Extraction

Just a heads up to anyone interested that Saturday, September 1, Concordia Television Productions (a student production of Concordia University, St. Paul) will be webstreaming our first game of the season. This will incorporate (hopefully) a very complicated Excel file that will allow us to pull virtually any stat off of the SID's StatCrew file in real-time and export it, via a user interface, to Datalink to populate headshot templates, team stat templates, etc... without having to manually re-enter the data. There are over 500 Datalink variables overall.

As this is a student production and the semester began... yesterday... I expect that there will be problems. This will be the first real trial run of the Excel file, too, so we'll see what happens.

You can watch the stream at cugoldenbears.nmtvsports.com. Pregame begins at 12:50 CST.

Good luck, Zach! Sounds very cool.

You're working off of a StatCrew XML file or feed, yes? You don't have to screen-scrape the HTMLified files for the web, do you? (I tried to do that once. ONCE.)

Last year I used Excel to grab StatCrew HTML tables on a 7 second auto refresh. That worked... okay... but reading the XML is faster on the refresh. I'm a little concerned at what will happen at the beginning of the game when the XML file is missing a lot of data when compared to the schema, but we'll see how it goes. It will either be a really good day tomorrow, or a really bad day.

Mid-game and we've run in to some problems that are preventing auto-refresh, but overall it's working well. Had numerous other problems that one would expect for the first game of the year.

Much better results this last weekend with volleyball and football. We were able to spit out any team or player stat on a moments notice, using only 5 or 6 template graphics in LiveText. Next game is volleyball, this Friday and Saturday at cugoldenbears.nmtvsports.com.
