    Sony HDV to SpeedEdit

I have several classroom computers with SpeedEdit. I need to know how to get the HP computer to recognize a Sony HDV player using firewire.

I use the same setup with my TriCaster Studio models but that was just as simple as plugging the player into the Tricaster with firewire and the Tricaster recognized the player right away.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

It should be that easy with SE as well. Does Windows detect the player when you plug it in (Windows notification)? Can you see the firewire port as active and recognized as a firewire port in the Windows Control Panel?

    Someone else's got it!

The only thing that stops the SE from seeing the DV device is if some other software (usually Windows Movie Maker) grabs it first. You can uninstall software if you're not likely to use it (and who in their right mind would use WMM if the have SE) and uninstalling WMM will probably leave nothing to grab the DV device before SE can get it.

That's what I would try first.

There are other possiblities to try too.

If it shows up in the Device Manager and Windows sees it, then SE will see it. Simple as that. The only time I had a problem was years ago when I had some non Texas Instrument firewire device or something. 99% of the time, if Windows sees it, SE will too.

    I remember that time.

    It was a massacre.
