    Oh great! Another Bullet animation.

Click here to view it in my website.

I added some dust to make it more interesting.. Note that the dust stains the environment. Fun stuff!

Lightwave an my compositor. It was pretty complicated... I'll have to do a video tutorial on it.

That's just gorgeous! And I hope you do decide to do a tutorial on the staining effect -- very nice indeed!

Sorry but the particle effects looks really fake to me. Nothing gorgeous about it. However the dynamics look nice. Maybe it would have looked better if you'd used TFD.

About to say what a party pooper but having looked at the animation I kinda agree. Assuming it was particular, the particles die too quickly and move out at a rate that doesn't quite match the demolition. I'd try working it a bit more to get a better match, and add camera shake to hide it if you can't get it perfect.

I think you should "expand and dissolve" the HVcloud rather than shrinking it. You can have better control driving the HV size via a gradient on the geometry tab but at the same time you have to play with density, opacity and thickness. And maybe or most probably you need a second particle layer made up of partigons, it gives granulation to the effect not only that soft and cloudy feeling. And if you are really crazy add a 3rd layer of splinters. I dont know if you can use instancing with particles instead of using FXlinker which is pretty clumsy.

    Hey guys,

Thanks for your advices... I wasn't going for total realism.. More of a stylized thing. If I were doing this for real, I would absolutely have more steps between fine powder and chunks. And there would have been many more chunks.

Incidentally, I was originally rendering the dust pass and it was looking great... More than it had a right to... But it was taking an hour and 22 minutes a frame.. So I optimized the heck out of it.. And the result you see before you. It was primarily to show the hard body dynamics.

    Cheers!

apply TurbulenceFD on the pieces for best realism of dust please..
But good luck with that, first you need to have it or buy it, then..
well it might not be that easy to apply TurbulenceFD, Bullet engine itself needs to work with particles in a better way I guess.

By the way..well yes the particle dust looks off, you could use bigger size and expand and dissolve, but you might also go with absolutly smallest particles there is

You know that Lightwave 11 now can spit out several millions of particles now? I tested over 6 millions, and it all renders tiny hv sprites, with that and working with multiple layers composite and softening in after effect for instance, it would surely be fine.

Hereīs a good dust render, from you know who.. Mr Rid.

Edit...sorry didnīt read your post above about realism...
