Lightbulb I don't think FBX can substitute for MDD/XML exports.

The only file format listed on that PDF I see that might preserve modo's deformations is Alembic. If LightWave had an Alembic reader, one could get the displacement data out of modo that way.

I'm curious about the depth of modo's RealFlow support. I see that modo can now import RealFlow particle data, but the PDF does not say if it can export RealFlow Scene Data. If modo can export RealFlow SD files to RealFlow, artists could use the same SD file format as a means of getting displacements out of modo and into LightWave using the NextLimit SD reader plug-in.

I myself do not own modo, so I'd have to pay $795 for the crossgrade.

True. But that's about half the price for a full version of LW. So still not a bad deal. I like having both apps.

Oh yeah, I know about that, the user would still have to fix the weighting inside LW. . .but after that's done piece of cake for any FK translations. In theory.

Agreed, lots of choice and / or collaborative tools, it's a good time to be a 3D artist! I'm glad I live in this time!

wow, that's quite a surprise announcement by luxology, and quite the impressive toolset.

It's a good month for 3D end users.

For me, a Lightwave+Modo user, it's a very exciting time indeed.

BTW, I seem to remember seeing someone was working on baking MDDs out of modo. I'd have to dig though.

What I'd like to see is sharing rigs between the two.
