In the surface node editor of the mesh reference, use the Instancer Info node (DP Kit tab for DP Instancer)
plug Index/ID as seed in Random node for whatever variation you need in your surface setup,
    color, scalar etc..
i.e a random scalar in a 0-360 range values can vary color
in the hue input of the Color Tool node.

I don't see index/ID anywhere. Where should it be?.

Sorry for my ignorance. I'm not too familiar with nodes.

Can you show me a node setup to follow?

For DP Instancer, Instancer Info node is in DPKit/Instance Generator/

Instance Info node for native Generator is in Spot Info/

For LW2015, a simple setup for varying colors with Instance ID with DP Instancer,
    Instancer_Info_Nodes.zip

You can have mor control of the color palette by just input the ID in a Gradient node.

    dpont,

Thanks for your help. I'll try this out on Monday.

I'll consider a donation to you when I get paid some money on the project.

Thanks, I reconfigured things without the bone hierarchy and it worked.
Now I am having a shot at rendering with Octane as a test due to speed and I am running into an issue with the DPinstances. They render fine in the octane IPR on a single frame but when you render a sequence, they do not animate and stay on the position in the first frame rendered. I think this should work ok, I think it is that DP instance isn't doing a refresh on scene update to the renderer.
LW instances will work in this regard so there must be something a little different there in how the instances are handled on rendering a sequence.
I tried with Octane 4 demo, available here : https://render.otoy.com/plugindownlo...Win64_demo.zip

when testing this, make sure to enable update instances i the octane render target options.

Sorry, not possible to support DP Instancer with Octane, no Cuda here.

Just a note about this, DP Instancer does different update compared to native instancer,
mainly to avoid useless re-calculation when evaluating mesh etc,
but you have an option "Full Update" did yo check it?

    Denis.
