    John Carter Trailer!

Had to watch it on a work computer without sound but looks ok. Can't say I care for the way they envision the Tharks, though.

What was wrong with calling the movie 'A Princess of Mars' (the original book title)? At the very least they should have called it 'John Carter of Mars'.

I really get annoyed when movies are given meaningless and undescriptive character names for titles.

I'm not sure why I would want to see this. Could just be a bad trailer. Looks like the disney version of conan with alien visitors, not that this means anything to me.
All that is powerful or long standing is first conceived in the imagination; supported by the hope of possibility and then made manifest in our commitment of our current physical reality.

I still have great childhood fondness for the ERB novels so I'll probably wind up hating this movie. I do hope they stay true to the early 1900's fantasy science that still makes the books so charming. Will wait and see before judging too harshly.

The fact they are willing to actually have it happen on Mars and the aliens have 6 appendages is true enough to the books for me, but yes, not enough voluptuousness indeed.
Also, +10 for awesome Arcade Fire cover by Peter Gabriel as the soundtrack.

Hope it won't be as average as Solomon Kane was (which was still fun and close enough to the source material though mind you)

    Groovie test animation from 1936 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTAlgZlqwnQ
If completed, JM might have been the first feature length animated, before Snow White (also used rotoscope).

I understand the decision to leave the word 'Mars' out of it since it will only serve to confuse the majority who are unfamiliar with the source material. "Aint nobuddy on Mars!?" Am sure there was plenty of pre-pro discussion, and thru the course of other stalled production attempts over the decades (Harryhausen, Tom Cruise, Robert Rodriguez and Jon Favreau have been associated), about where compromise may be necessary for translating the far out concepts to live action, like the characters being all nude. And every creature had six arms and ten legs.

I loved the stories since reading them in high school and am so glad it appears to be handled very well. I just thank Tur that the project didnt fall into the hands of some numbskull like Snyder, Emmerich or Bay.

Btw, there already was a Princess of Mars movie- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnsuVpG_OZQ (I know LW was used at least for the thoats that Jason Shulman worked on).

Wow! I've never seen that test before; thanks for sharing the link. I remember reading years ago that Fleischer Studios started working an animated Princess of Mars film but a studio fire destroyed nearly all the work and production was abandoned. The article showed a landscape image that was supposedly from the only surviving footage. (About 20 frames or 20 seconds...don't remember exactly.)

Regarding the other link: Traci Lords!

she's just as human as anyone else...yeh she did porn in the past...we all do the same stuff but not in front of a camera remember.

the asylum based version looks tons more interesting to me and not cos it has an ex porn star in an acting role.

Reminds of 'what if' Jodorowsky' Dune. Am glad the remake has fallen thru since they were poised to ruin it again with the wrong people attached.

First of all John Carter is my Brother's name sooo. lol.

Yeah, I'm not really judging the movie yet, just wondering why this Trailer is what it is. It just doesn't tell me much about why this movie would be interesting to watch. And yes, I know nothing about Princess of Mars, so I can only go by what the Trailer reveals to me which isn't much. Usually I go see a movie because there is something philosophically challenging hinted at in the trailer. Science fiction that I have read tends to do that so it would make the most sense for a sci-fi fantasy movie to do that too. Or there is a clear relationship shown in the Trailer at least. I mean, some dude dies, his kid wakes up in narnia and has to save the world again. . . Uhh, ok been there done that.

Ohh, I forgot, this is a Disney live action movie.

I understand the trailer not meaning much if you're not familiar with the books. Am sure there will be more over-explanatory trailers to come with too much editing. Keep in mind, JM was written in 1911, way before all other such Tolkien type stories, and contained much graphic violence. A movie could never have done justice before today's level of CG. I've tried to visualize the colorful story elements for decades. Will be interesting to see how it is all handled.

Actually the Uncle is the one who wakes up in 'Narnia.' Although the story is primarily a male fantasy with stretched physics, one difference is that its not about 'magic' (I could never buy into Rings or Potter). I think the main philosophic angle is that the planet is facing ecologic collapse and mass extinction while the inhabitants are too primitive and caught up in petty racial disputes to focus on dealing with the problem, reflecting today's prevailing concern. I dont expect it to mean anything to others, but the story, and particularly the song used in the trailer resonate for me personally. The song alludes to the most mysterious part of the story, of how he is transported.
