    Tricaster with Multicast support

It would be a great tool for Government and Education facilities if the Tricaster could stream out a multicast stream of h.264.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multicast

This would give the tricaster the ability to stream one stream to thousands of people utilizing a small network footprint.

VLC allows UDP multicasting and it is a free encoding software.

    THANKS,,

While you're waiting for NewTek for a response on that one, keep track of what Wowza is doing. They plan to implement a multicast solution from a single stream in the next version of their sever software. If Adobe doesn't crush them in the courts for patent infringement, Wowza may be your best option.

    I second this request!

I have done this for the lasat few years using both Wirecast 4 (almost like a Tricaster) and Flash Live Media Encoder. I remember the SD Tricasters used FLME for their streaming, could the XD series do this?

As of Talking with Newtek at NAB the New tricaster did not support Multicast "Mt2s" streaming. They had some confusion on what real multicast was.

"the ability on a local network to generate one stream on the network that thousands of users can watch without creating the extra bandwidth requirements that the conventional unicast (Flash) streams require."

It doesn't. Flash does. TriCaster uses Flash. That should be enough to get you thinking, but sorry, you'd have to figure out the rest yourself or secure a consultant. Whatever you come up with, I have no idea if it will be NewTek sanctioned or not.

    Good luck.
