it’s wicked and the maya one is just the same. tested both and work well.

i’m using lwo2, which is good as
lwo3 isn’t supported as well in other apps.

Just an FYI, it will import a normal LW curve, but if you use LWCAD, the nurb curve from that will crash it, so you either need to convert to polys using the appropriate LWCAD function, or remove them from the file and save a copy for Blender import.
Other than that, yup, it pulls in the old LWO files pretty well. As with the other older LWO import however, it doesn't handle ngons gracefully every time. If there are too many points, you end up with the edges but no face.
    Too old to die young.

THIS news makes it more imperative (IMO) that LWG continues to research and develop ways for LW users to work productively with Blender.

They should be regarded as "best buddies" in any pipeline. For starters, and probably quick-ISH to develop, would be an importer for Blender for LWO3 format. Don't sweat the textures, but be able to xfer the meshes.

yes, some kind of Blender tech seems inevitable

The firm will contribute $120,000/year towards the development of the open-source 3D software, with the money being used to help fund support for the Vulkan graphics API within Blender.

hopefully we'll at least see Cycles in LightWave soon

I'm waiting for network rendering & E-cycles. Then its game on. Hopefully LWG/NT pulls something out from some place to counter that.

Distributed rendering seems to exist already: are you referring to something specific?

So, Blender is getting close to their goal of having 20 full-time developers. That's huge. With the release of version 2.80 and 2.81 close, it just goes to show that doing a major software update can lead to very good things.

    yes, in Blender Cycles.
not in LightWave Cycles, an experimental project > https://forums.newtek.com/showthread.php/151937

I havenīt tried it myself, I got the free blender octane version..not sure if it works there, will have a look, vdb failed for me anyway..it just shuts down octane blender...just as if it canīt handle it with only one gpu.
