Nice work it is almost there, just wondering where your third light is coming from? As under the table/sink you have a dark shadow being cash onto the wall by the legs. maybe trying to just utilise the two small lamps pluss a nice radiosity and gamma setting which might give you a good atmosphere? Also the window outside that I can see in image 3 - possibly make this black outside rather than grey as it current doesn't imply enough depth. You might already be aware and using this method, but possibly have a linea workflow with all your textures and processing and then add gamma at the end? (to be honest I don't know a lot about this myself, just seem some examples on youtube and discussions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEbH62a1YqA
Just my 2 centsLook forward to progress
Thanks for taking a look, the feedback is appreciated.
The third light is on the wall opposite the mirror, a spherical light like the other two. Good call on the window, will try that...
The current settings are:
ambient intensity 8%
Radiosity:
Monte Carlo
interpolated
intensity 100%
indirect bounces 1
rays per eval 100
angular tolerance 45
min pxl spacing 4
max pxl spacing 100
multiplier
100%
caustics not enabled
I'll make some adjustments and repost...
Thanks
You are welcomePersonally I would stay away from ambient intensity alltogether if you are going for realism. Like the guy discusses in the video you can always render the image out as an HDR and then tweak the levels in photoshop if you are finding it is too dark in areas. As with radiosity you "should" be able to get lights acting as realistic as possible without it.
be careful with the third light source though as in my opinion things can appear unnatural if the eye cannot see where the lights are coming from. And like I say if you find tyhat areas are appearing to dark then do have a watch through the youtube video as he has some excellent comparisons.
All the best, Will
The vids you linked to were very informative, gives me some ideas!
I'll make some adjustments to the workflow here, should have new renders up tomorrow or the next day... Thanks again for the tips...

I turned off the third light, and turned up the brightness on the other two a little. Windowpane darkened. Ambient light now 0%. Still not quite there, but less washed out...
Looking very good. The wall needs some light from your sconce globes. Also the shadow on the right wall seems wrong. Actually I wouldn't think there would be a shadow there. But coming along very good.

I left the light's intensity the same, but increased the transparency of the bulbs and sconce glass a bit... The sconce shadow probably looks a bit off because the glass was too "thick", not transparent enough...

I'll try point lights instead of spherical lights.
I made the lights linear lights. Shadow quality a bit better. Please let me know what you think.

Much better! One thing, and keep in mind I'm no expert and could be all wrong, but it stills seems like there should be some light on that corner wall on the left. You've got that dark spot exaclty where I would think there would be some light.![]()

You're right, I think that's because the "end" of the linear light is pointing towards the wall... new renders later today or tomorrow..
I am just wondering why the light is not shining through the transparent object and instead casting a shadow.... I don't know much about it but is it possible enabling caustics on the objects and textures would work? As they don't seem to be working as a realistic source.
Each sconce now has 2 linear lights, one pointing up/down the other across... Shadow on far wall seems a bit better. Will try renders with caustics over the weekend.
