    Codec Grief !

    Hi,

I wonder if someone can help me with codecs.

I want to create animations suitable for uploading to YouTube. What is the best codec to use ?

Also, what is the best codec to use just for local viewing on a PC ( eg. to support development ) and to share with other PC users. All the codecs I seem to come across are either proprietary, or the files are massive. I thought DivX was good butit wasn't open (and wasn't supported by Adobe).

Help ( no more hair to tear out ).

You can try XViD an open source version of DiVX.

I always render out frames, then use something like Quicktime Pro to compile them into an h.264 .mov file. But your mileage may vary.
