    YouTube Optimization

I have a client who has some 12 minute clips they want to upload to YouTube. The project is 480i widescreen. When I render these clips from my SE2 timeline, what's the recommended file format, dimensions, bitrate, etc. to use to give the best quality on YouTube?

I also have QuickTime Pro to use if necessary.

YouTube has increased the time limit to 15 minutes. And if you're a YouTube partner, you can go even longer than that.

    youtube quality levels have exploded

Three years ago youtube posted postage stamp videos. Now their upper limit is 15 minutes of 1920x1080p TRUE HD. Of course, they know that not many people are capable of uploading or editing that quality, but they theoretically could if they wanted to.

Now, if EVERYBODY started uploading tech quality video like that the youtube servers would EXPLODE! Sort of like when Gmail offers you huge quantities of storage space knowing most people would never use it.

If they did, it would be like making a run on a bank when everyone demands their money withdrawn at once and the bank folds under the pressure.

Agreed Don. So it's a good thing most people aren't that familiar with the technical side of video production and usually leave the file creation process to their video editing 'wizards', which usually is web server friendly.

God help us if or when the populus 'cotton's on' to our trade secrets and start trying to get the best that their equipment can produce.
