Tesselated sphere works well, the spacing is a little problematic you always end up with space between mirrors or overlapping, but it's close. Instead of using Nut I used Mike Green's Ultimate Clone and set position to points and "y point at" to normal. I didn't use nut because it's 32 bit only.

It's a shame Nut is 32bit only. Doooooood, start a kickstarter to get paid for the 64bit conversion!!

have you tried the bevel tool?
my friend got a pretty good disco ball by simply beveling in squares.
    peter
in fact, i'm trying that too.
i tried using instances to do this very thing, but i got a wierd pattern.
    http://forums.newtek.com/showthread....have-in-common
some discussion on the same thing.
    i have my pic there,
swampy linked to yet another forum topic where a guy made an lscript to handle this very thing, placing boxes via the lscript i think.
have to try that out too.
    enjoy

Probably searchable, but IIRC the issue was that at the poles of the sphere the user wanted actual squares, rather than what one gets from the simpler approaches.
